Hi I'm KJ, CEO & Managing Partner of Arising Ventures. I typically spend my days reviewing Special Situation acquisition opportunities in tech and managing my PE firm's portfolio of businesses. I have a BA in Public Policy from Stanford, an MBA from Oxford, and am a YC alum. I'm passionate about businesses that demonstrate both operational excellence and soul, and have spent the last years cultivating a network of operators and investors who love intersection of great businesses and great returns.
My Why
It's rare for me to get involved in other people's projects, but when I met the team behind Cascada and explored the financial product opportunity, I knew I had something special on my hands. Not just because high-end thermal properties have great cashflow dynamics and are long overdue in America, but because the team exudes a rare combination of savvy, obsession, and demonstrated executional track record.
Projects like Cascada are complex, and the team delivering their first development in Portland is impressive enough. But they're just getting started. They are on track to break ground on their second project in Bend in late 2026, and I intend to invest. I fell in love with the combination of a proven team, market-validated product & economics, compelling synergies between hotel, restaurant, & bathhouse revenue streams—and perhaps most importantly, the Bonus Depreciation + Opportunity Zone downside protection that the investment vehicle has to offer.
